Up-and-coming partner Angeline Cheong May May’s debt capital markets practice encompasses a variety of debt transactions including direct and syndicated corporate loans along with conventional and Islamic private debt securities. Bahari Yeow Tien Hong leads the firm’s intellectual property practice and is praised by a client for his “extensive experience and thorough understanding of the actual practice of IP prosecution and litigation.” Senior associate Eunice Chan Wei Lynn is also commended for being “very knowledgeable in the area of trade mark and copyright.” The team successfully represented one of Malaysia’s largest shoe manufacturers in a rare industrial design dispute.

Adlin Abdul Majid, who practises competition and intellectual property law, also advises clients on the registration as data users with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner, following the 2013 implementation of Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act.

The firm has the largest tax team in Malaysia and it is the only firm with a dedicated GST task force. Datuk DP Naban and S Saravana Kumar, who lead the practice, are described by a client as “the best tax legal counsel in Malaysia.” Senior associate Siti Fatimah Mohd Shahrom specialises in corporate tax and tax advisory matters. The team successfully represented a client in Malaysia’s first transfer pricing litigation, marking the first case of its kind in the country.
